Get On Reddit!

We might be partial here as one of our founders is a former employee (and current investor) of Reddit, but it’s a tool that businesses need to be using more, and he was adamant that we write this post.

No, not advertising on Reddit–their team is lovely, and they do have a self-serve product that can be really useful–but, I mean posting on Reddit.

To those who aren’t as familiar with Reddit as Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter (sorry, X), our founder recalled what Steve Huffman, Reddit’s co-founder/current CEO said during initiation–that “Facebook can be people you know talking about stuff you don’t care about…while Reddit is people you don’t know talking about things you do care about”

Also, compared to other social networks, Reddit has very distinct user characteristics, and here is the source I’ll be using to describe them.

Reddit is generally younger and more educated than other social networks (also has a higher composition of men, but c’est la vie) but more importantly, you get to hear people speak passionately with a security blanket of anonymity. This is crucial, because if you are trying to understand consumer sentiment in your field or neighborhood–a subreddit probably exists already, and people are speaking up.

If you want free, yet priceless market research–log in and listen. You are essentially getting a free focus group thats active 24/7. Get in there and ask yourself “what can I do to help these people?” It’s honestly how I got the idea for Jumprr–which is from Small Businesses saying that they are struggling to make an in-market presence.

That being said–are you a restaurant? Sub yourself to 10-15 food subreddits across the serious and light-hearted tones and hear what people are saying.

From there, get on your local subreddit too and see what the thoughts of the community are, and we can talk about how you can satiate those needs
